Preparing for an evening of Advent song and reflection, I was considering the title of this song, “The Day of the Lord’, and what it scripturally means. The Day of the Lord, a time of reckoning, will be greeted in a couple of different ways; for those in friendship with God, it will be a day of glory and rejoicing – for others, not so much.
But in this season of Advent, we prepare ourselves constantly for the day of the Lord – maybe not the ‘end times’ kind of day, or even the day that we leave this world; every day, everywhere, we are to greet the Lord in every person we encounter, no matter who they are or what their circumstances. We are to prepare for the Day of the Lord in the here and now – not just some far off tomorrow.
Praised be Jesus Christ, now and forever!
